What To Layer Under Your Slip Dress?

Give your slip dress a chance to elevate your cold weather wardrobe. No need to wait for the summer when you can layer under your slip dress right now.

In some places, the temps are still down low but if you can’t wait for spring/summer to wear your slip (or cami) dress, rejoice, for there is a way to whip out the 90s fashion trend now.

Cami or slip dresses used to be worn as an undergarment for the ladies ages ago. Kate Moss made it cool back in the 90s and as per usual, parts of the fashion world got bewitched.

As a pimply teen at the time, I knew nothing of the slip dress trend. But grunge was definitely alive as revealed by some of the outfits donned by my peers. Looking at photos of Kate Moss in her slip dresses especially the one in sheer metallic gave me a clue why the dress style in particular never stood a chance.

Mere mortals didn’t and still don’t want to parade our luscious bosoms and choice of underwear out for the world see. And just what type of bra would my teenage self wear with it? Even now, slip dresses can be quite annoying for the reason that some people just #aintgotnotime for fussing over the right type of bra to wear with it.

Anyway, you know that it takes no genius to chuck a jacket or some form of outerwear over a slip dress as a way to layer up. As an alternative, I suggest: why not layer under the slip dress instead? And then optionally layer over a jacket or coat of your liking for added insulation as required by your current weather.

We look to Instagram for ways you can wear the slip dress as an outerwear. You know the drill, awesome fashion inspo, down below.

What To Layer Under A Slip Dress – Cold Weather Styling Tips

A Knit Turtleneck

You can see more of this stunning layered-up look here. With a team of turtleneck, slip dress and bomber jacket – you know you’re winning the style game!

A Sheer Long Sleeve Top

Wear your patterned and fringe-y slip dress over a sheer top with long sleeves that comes in a flesh-toned hue for a bit of a carefree bohemian flair.

A High Round Neck Tee

Pop a white slip dress over a darker toned tee for an unexpected twist of the casual and ladylike.

A Sleeveless White Top

A black and white contrast is always modern. Play the monochrome card by donning a black slip dress over a white sleeveless top. The cut-out and tiered design of the slip pops out even more with the white top as a backdrop.

Jeans And Tee

Keep it neutral but whimsically, double the layer. The short-sleeved tee in white stands in contrast with the metallic brown slip dress and tapered jeans peek out underneath.

A High-Neck Long Sleeved Top

Love the grey on grey take on fashion? Layer your slip dress over a long sleeved top in your favorite shade of grey.

The black lace detailing jumps out visually against the white. As are the lacy V-neckline and dainty straps.
