Folks, it’s out. Pantone’s color of the year 2016 comes in two and they’re a reflection of gender equality and fluidity. Find out what they are.
The two colors of 2016 are rose quartz and serenity. If you’re boggled as to what the colors are at first read, then let me pull the definition from the color authority’s website:
“Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.” – Pantone
Still confused? Then, just stare at this dreamy image because it’s way easier to visualize than to decipher color through words used to describe it:

Basically, rose quartz refers to a soft shade of pink and serenity is a soft shade of blue with a cool undertone. Why are there two colors for 2016 when past years had only solo color for each of the year, you wonder? Well, to put it in short, 2016 marks a year of gender equality and fluidity and the two colors reflect this pervasive mood in the way we view the world through the lens of color.
In fashion especially, there is a widening of a horizon in color perspective. Where in the past, certain colors are associated with manliness and stubbornly remained so, today, the chic blokes are not afraid to inject colors like pink of any shades within their wardrobe and treat them as expressions of their personal style as opposed to viewing them as exclusively feminine and discarding them aside for fear of society’s judgment.
The women’s fashion scene however is much more receptive to the gender-bending elements, raiding clothes from the men’s section and making their own. Shades of blue are viewed as a universal and thus aren’t that of a controversy at all when contrasted with candy hues of pink worn by men but this perception of compromised manliness has gradually eroded even within the more conservative circles.
In the spirit of embracing the two sweet colors for their soft and tranquil vibe, let us eyeball 5 looks in shades of serenity worn by the ladies, and 5 looks in the sweet hues of rose quartz by the men.
