What to wear to welcome 2016 and the year of the Fire Monkey, this Chinese Lunar New Year.
Yo yo yo. Christmas had come and gone and the new year is a peek around the corner. And before you know it, it will be the time to ring in the Chinese New Year 2016 and welcome the Year of the Fire Monkey. Goodbye to the sheep of last year, now that monkeys are so in!
Now, if you’re in this space, I bet you’re not looking forward to wear monkey prints for CNY 2016, well, at least not until after the main parties are over. Before you let the monkeys jump out of the cage, here are a few sleek and chic dress ideas to consider so you’ll look most proper and elegant as you celebrate with your family and friends. Why white and pastel blue out of all the colors, you ask?
Well, after running a google search like all internet geniuses do to find out the colors to wear for the upcoming Lunar New Year, I found out that red and black (if you’re to take the superstition seriously or at least entertain it) are to be avoided and that white, blue and gold are the lucky colors to be caught wearing. Obviously, no one’s forcing anyone to abandon red/black, so you can wear these colors too should you desire so.
ZALORA has tons of sizzling hot red party dresses but for this piece and the fact that I want to start off with the lucky colors of white and blue, here it goes, the dress list curated just for you ladies who only want the best out of the best, all narrowed down. You can also use the dress ideas as a guide to help you figure what to wear to welcome 2016.
What To Wear This Lunar New Year 2016?
Consider these pretty little dress ideas in white and baby blue…
Bandeau Lace Fit + Flare Dress
Note the slight dip of the hemline at the back and the off-shoulder neckline plus lace, who doesn’t love a little bit of lace?
Belted Loose Dress
This dress caught me at a glance. I know there’s the presence of black that is the built-in black but the way this is styled, it’s just too chic to pass. Do you agree? Love the casual looseness of it!
Cap Sleeve Lace Sheath Dress
A little more lace, scalloped hem, cap sleeves and the sweet high neckline, this figure-accentuating dress carries the best bits.
Boho Ivory Lace Dress
Note the cross-strappy, plunging neckline, a trace of lace and how carefree this dress is. We all definitely need a dress like this no matter the season.
Embroidered Mini Qipao
I spotted this lonely qipao dress and wished ZALORA would carry more of the midi length as I have such a dress crush on cheongsam/qipao style ones. The sweet candy colors are barely there, a perfect pastel twist on a traditional frock.
Butterfly Sleeve Dress
The sleeves had me at hello. If you’re a fan of making a strategic statement in a minimal white dress, get this!
High Collar Fit + Flare Dress
Another sweet powder blue dress to think about of getting. It is sleeveless and high-necked, with a slightly flared shape.
Jacket Suit Dress
| Pink Evil’s Fashion Supermarket
I was confused as to why this is called a ‘jacket suit’ dress but you’ll have to see how it looks from the back. Pretty sleek and chic, I must say. Oh and I also pondered on the name of the clothing label. Pink Evil is effective enough on its own. Why the need to elongate further with the addition of Fashion Supermarket? Do they sell fish and vegetables there as well? I jest.
Off Shoulder Fit + Flare Dress
I like this dress for its shape but also curiously, that boatneck style neckline as it gives a nod to the off-shoulder trend but is still not too overly exposed. Is it just me?
Layered Panel Dress
A look that can be a little clinical, but treat the dress as a canvas. You can either go minimalist the way it’s styled now or go maximalist in your accessory department.
