Red sweaters in textured knit combine the two elements that I adore the most: arresting color and cozy fabric. How to wear them? Let’s find out!

A pop of bold red in an outfit of neutral color palette is energizing. To combat against the chilliness that’s been setting in, a red knit sweater serves to insulate the wearer from the elements while letting her exude an abstract warmth through the presence of the bright color.

If you’re wondering how to add a bold red sweater into your wardrobe and make it work for the unpredictable weather, to the looks and outfit ideas below to pick instant style pointers:

thrifted cozy red sweater | Sophia Mayrhofer

A sweater can be worn by itself or layered over a dress or a combination of a blouse and a dress depending on how cold that it gets. Layering is a fun dressing affair if you let interesting design or detail like a scalloped collar and lace embroidery on a skirt peek through.

On Sophia’s outfit, she also adds a belt to give a curve back to her look. Tiny dots from her sheer tights bring in a visual tease. As for shine, chunky gold bracelets are worn layered over the sleeve of her red sweater.

red sweater – Sheinside | Ying Ying

A textured red sweater can bring the necessary oomph into a wardrobe that is made of plain black separates. Ying Ying’s wardrobe highlights the much loved black and red color scheme that anyone can pull off.

sweater – Zara | Rebeca LookForTime

Team a red sweater with a blue and red tartan pants for a mix of print and color. If a coat is needed, pick one in a muted beige/brown shade to offset the brightness of the top and bottom. Rebeca keeps the same muted neutral hue in her footwear department.

sweater – Topshop | Fengwan Wang

A favorite look of mine that is more suited to the Malaysian weather consists of a red sweater worn with a pair of tapered pants rendered in black and white abstract motif. A chunky gold necklace is worn over the sweater neckline for a touch of shine and a pair of red heels tie the look together and up the dressy vibe of the ensemble.

Are you in a sweater weather mood? What do you think of bold red as a color? Would you wear it this season or stick to the darker shade of red like burgundy? Personally, how would you style a textured sweater in red? Share below and let us know!

“I love draping; it’s less about proportion than fit and the fabric. It’s very specialized and I think when women see the construction, they respond to it immediately.”Prabal Gurung
