Fashionista NOW: Edgy In Lace Fashion Inspiration

Lace triggers to mind gentle feminine looks. What if you’re not into prim looks? Don’t discredit lace just yet – let us help you tame the femme in lace!

We all know how sporty and men-inspired trends are so IN this season that it’d be hard not take up the fashion challenge and include them as we approach lace in our wardrobes.

Whether you have a top or skirt rendered in lace at your disposal, we assure you that it is the height of creativity to bring out the unexpected in the manner you wish to style it.

And in this case, we’d like to propose that you scour our fashion pointers and the accompanying lookbooks below to help you take lace out from the fashion rut:

The sporty footwear route:

blue lace crop top

Don’t let the intricate lace scare you with notions that it belongs to the closets of the prim and proper.

Turn the lace effect down a notch by pairing it with high waisted jeans and a pair of trainers. If you must sport an on trend style, pick a lace top that comes cropped. And if the neutral black and white lace are too overrated for your taste, pick a hue of your liking and wear it proud this spring/summer.

The statement outerwear method:

black lace jacket – Sheinside

Pick up an edgy black lace jacket and don it like you would with a sleek black (faux) leather jacket.

Go the monotone route by keeping your getup’s color palette in morose shades of black. Layer the outerwear over a black tank and studded shorts. Complete the look with sheer black tights and black boots.

The lace and leather juxtaposition appeal:

black lace tank – Wish

For those whose wardrobes must have be filled to the brim with leather (or faux leather) items of clothing, take advantage of the lace trend by springing it on a look that dives into the sporty realm through the inclusion of sports-inspired boots, racer cut tank and rolled up leather shorts. Tote a roomy bag to make a bold statement that says you’re all about real functionality.

The casual lace methodology:

black lace pencil skirt

Whenever a look with lace is searched upon on lookbook or polyvore, we’d be seeing all these formal interpretations that just come by a whole load of variety. But no one has daily galas to attend if we’re being honest, right?

Give lace the option to be part of a casual wear by teaming it with unlikely pieces. The look above has it down to a tee through the combination of a lace pencil skirt with a slouchy mint sweater, white framed round sunglasses, leopard print sneakers and a neutral colored backpack.

The oversized silhouette route:

lace sleeve top

A sweater style top that’s made delicate with the presence of lace sleeves is the perfect piece to own if you like an out-of-the-box take on the trend.

While figure-hugging forms of clothing accentuate the femininity of a woman, you can choose to play it down by wearing a relaxed lace sleeved top with a black pleated flared trousers à la palazzo style. Finish off with pointy pumps to offset the super laidback outfit.

The punk-y plaid route:

long sleeve lace top – Taobao

Contrasting elements are in play this fashion season. Lace and plaid (or tartan, to be technically correct) are two things that do not just pop to mind easily. Break the fashion norm by including these two trends together and you’ll make a visual impression that lasts.

Take a cue from Casey (above) as she teams her delicate white lace top with her cuffed plaid ‘pajama’ bottoms as she prefers to call it and throw on a pair of this season’s favorite chunky sandals and voilà a look to roam the town in style done in a jiffy.

Top your head off with a no-nonsense black hat preferably in a wide brim gentleman’s style.

lace skirt – Romwe

Miss Mayo chooses to ‘plaid the lace’ and her getup’s two opposing elements work to create an unlikely balance, yes? If there’s a look that isn’t that played out yet, I believe this one is it. What do you think?

To the selected polyvore sets that manage to downplay lace pieces while keeping the outfit arrangements fresh:

Have you always shied away from wearing lace because it’s too ladylike for your taste or that it ventures into granny territory? If so, how do you like the outfit styles featured here to play those effects down? Share below and let us know!
