Stripes in black and white are a classic motif, no doubt. With the love for monochrome and all things chic only growing strong this season, scour our chic skirt styles rendered in the all-time favorite print trend.
With the temperature monkeying around and the tropical equator’s signature humidity running high, we, the ladies in particular have skirts; short or long, symmetrical or not, to be really thankful for. Skirts in B&W stripes fall under the category of a must-have and all-year-relevant. And with all things in black and white, the variety of outfit styles to be interpreted are quite endless.
Stripy skirts of the season may be rendered in a mix of vertical, horizontal and chevron-inspired lines of one size or more. This refreshing variety of a classic stripe design reflects the fashion crowd’s growing need for diversity.
If you’re of the mindset that vertical stripes elongate while horizontal stripes widen the torso, you are obligated to get updated: Science had debunked that notion in 2008 from a research done by a perception expert Peter Thompson of the University of York. However, a the experiment conducted by Val Watham in 2012 concluded that the opposite is true.
Just like diet fads and everything other ‘trend’ that constantly changes with time, take what you will from the two antagonistic results with bucket load of salt. Wear stripe designs that actually make you look and feel great because life’s too short to be taking fashion advice from scientists too seriously, right?
Remember when print mixing was considered a crime of fashion (by some) because it made the wearer look like she or he played dress-up in the dark? No? Well, there was a time in the 90s during which I was a high schooler that a print-on-print look would have caused me to suffer from serious secondhand embarrassment. Not that I was ever the fashionista then and looking back at old images of the era, I sure had a funny ‘style’) but don’t we all?
