It’s the time of the year again. Valentine’s Day is a day when flowers — the most cliche gift ever — at your local florists come in bloated price tags but great news: some of us smart enough to avoid to whole hoopla.

I mean, it’s great if you’ve got extra dough to spend but don’t feel like you’re obligated. Love for the special people in your life can actually be expressed in other ways that we should be able to transcend the tired pairing of flowers-and-chocolates combo. I always believe in the power of delicious food, home-cooked or otherwise, where members of the clan eat together in harmony, but that is just simple, old me.

If you don’t have a romantic partner to celebrate with, please have a rethink because love isn’t limited to that little box. I’m sure you have friends, family; both humans and animals who are starved for your undying love. And if you find yourself without both, surely, there is love to be directed to your own self, for how can you truly love another without offering all the love, kindness and compassion back to yourself, right?
