Clear bags, purses and clutches are making a chic comeback, with transparent shoes tagging along behind. What’s appealing about transparent plastics, you wonder. Why are see-through accessories the next coveted trend?
For some reason, this clear see-through trend just did not get me pulled in when I first noticed its existence. The sheer plastics reminded me so much of the see-through pencil cases and bags of the early 90s.
Fast forward to late 2012 and early this year; the see through accessories have clearly gone high up on the fashion scene level with popular designer brands such as Burberry, Chanel and Louis Vuitton were all taking a bite out of the same the transparent pie.
It’s hard to be neutral about transparent purses as it boggles the mind as to why anyone in their right mind would want to flash her glittery-encased smartphone and wallet out to the world. Perhaps, this is one of the trends where you’d need to be extra cautious as you wear it and live in an ideal crime-free area.
Transparent heels on the other hand, or any other shoes with transparent elements get a free pass as some may give off that magical Cinderella glass slippers’ appeal that most girly girls will find just worth having. But not on my feet, of course. My love for opaque and sturdy footwear wins every single time.
Nevertheless, I wouldn’t say no to the appeal of a cute transparent bag for picnics or a clear hand-carry to cart swimming-related necessities. And there’s practicality in having a clear see-through makeup bag so that when it gets a little icky inside, you’ll most definitely clean it sooner rather than later.
Anyway, if you’re into the transparent fashion trend and think that it’s the ultimate picture of chic minimalism, then do scroll on.
