Fashionista NOW: How To Wear Crop Top And Pencil Skirt Fashion Inspiration

A crop top may seem tricky to wear but when you team it with the right bottom, you’ll find that no navel need to be exposed and as an added bonus, you get to lengthen your torso by illusion. Wanna know how to work a crop top into your wardrobe like a pro? Click on.

Crop tops are a huge trend this year but they garner mixed reviews with some dismissing outright with the understanding that it has to do with navel-flaunting and that is only for toned youth. But this is a mistake as crop tops can be worn to allow a line of midriff-skin to show or not even an inch at all depending on how you choose to wear them.

A crop top and pencil skirt combo is one of the ways to make this happen. To assist in the styling tips, find below a roundup of fashion imagery to help you visualize how easy it is to welcome back crop tops into your wardrobe this season:

embroidered crop top – Zara | pencil skirt – Zara | Cathy Ogasawara

Okay, calm down. Although the navel is hidden, you find that you can flaunt a little more of your midriff skin should you want to and if the occasion permits or if you’re feeling a little adventurous.

Cathy chooses a ruffly crop top rendered in lace embroidery to go with a short pencil skirt in black. Black ankle strap heels and a bold red bag give her youthful look a slightly dressy finish.

crop top | pencil skirt | Beata Zet

A fitted crop top to go with an equally fitted pencil skirt is a welcome excuse to showcase your hourglass shape. It’s all a play of silhouette when you think of it.

See how much of skin that peeks through this outfit? And check out how the combo accentuates the tiniest part of the waist. With the skirt worn inches above the navel, all you’re revealing is a peek and that’s it.

vintage crop tee | pencil skirt with suspenders | Dianna Yong

Don’t want any skin to peek through? Easy peasy, wear it like Dianna. She teams a pinstripe crop top with a black pencil skirt that has suspenders. The hem of the crop top layers over the top part of her skirt thus keeping the midriff incognito.

crop top – Zara | pencil skirt – Primark | Krystina P.

And here’s another crop top and pencil skirt combination that does not involve midriff-flaunting. A casual form-fitting crop top is given a dressy iteration when paired with a knee-length pencil skirt. Comfy sandals loosen up the look a little bit while the structured clutch brings a little polish to the look.

collared crop top – Sheinside | houndstooth pencil skirt – Missguided | Amelia Goldie

Keep it dressy from top to bottom by choosing a contrast collar crop top to go with a houndstooth print pencil skirt. Midriff flesh is seen here but the top part of the abdomen is the friendliest to show off. You need not have toned abs to wear this outfit arrangement.

boxy crop top + gingham pencil skirt | Asma Zammel

Asma keeps her crop top in a slouchy boxy silhouette to contrast against the fitted pencil skirt. A peek of midriff happens but the navel stays hidden, safe and sound. Pretty cool, eh?

Do you wear crop tops? If so, do you wear it to navel-flaunt like Britney Spears or show a slither of the middle like Taylor Swift? No matter your style preference, what is your favorite outfit coordination that involves a crop top? Share below and let us know!

“When I started out in fashion, everything had to be very structured and tight and controlling, and now I’m getting to a point where I think – I could wear a great big parka, that could be quite fabulous. I haven’t always got to show off my size, show off my shape. It’s a turning point for me.”Victoria Beckham
