Oversize is on the rise. Big spacious silhouettes are what this year’s all about and when it comes to the outerwear trend, the bigger it is, the better.
The oversized fashion trend had been highlighted as part of Autumn/Winter of 2012/2013 and it is showing no sign of going away, influenced defiantly by a more relaxed method of dressing to blend in as trumpeted by the normcore clan. If roomy shapes are what it’s all about, then let us start with oversized outerwear!
To the selected fashion imagery below for the obligatory style guide and tips on how to make room for spacious jackets, blazers and even shirts (worn as an outerwear) in your present wardrobe.:
To quote Vogue UK, the easy way to oversize is to contrast volume with slimline structure in a stylish pairing of opposites. And that is the rule of Xenia’s casual number as she tops off a vertically-striped shirt with an oversized denim jacket while keeping the bottom part of her outfit form-fitting via a pair of skinny jeans. On her feet, a pair of sneakers in purple is cleverly color-blocked with yellow socks.
♥ oversized shirt – Zara
Alana masters the oversized trend by layering a long loose shirt over her white tube top worn with a pair of knee-distressed white skinny jeans. Nude ankle heels complete her chic number. Jewelry is kept to a (subjective) minimum with two delicate necklace worn stacked over one another, hoop earrings a la JLo and a few rings here and there for a glam chic finish.
♥ oversized jacket – Mango
Take a cue from Romalo and make it chilly-weather-friendly by wearing an oversized denim jacket over a chunky knit sweater. Again, the bottom silhouette is kept form-fitting to offset the volume that is happening on top.
♥ oversized jacket – Miss Selfridge
Ilah’s summer-to-fall’s take on the oversized trend is through the pairing of a long roomy mustard jacket over a blue romper for a look that is girly, playful and casual.
♥ oversized jacket – Qanda Fashion
Instead of skinny jeans or other leg-hugging kind of pants, tuck in a white top into black tapered slacks. Top if off with the hero of your wardrobe: a loose-fitting jacket with waist buttons. As a nod to the men-inspired trend and the normcore spirit, Sam finishes off quite casually with a pair of fuss-free slip-easy mandals.
♥ oversized white blazer – Stradivarius
Have an ill-fitting blazer rotting somewhere in the closet? No? Then, raid the closet of a male family member (with permission) and you’ll most probably find a huge blazer to go with your tee and skinny jeans. Instead of heels, keep it sporty in the footwear department the way Agata does it by donning a pair of white sneakers.

“I’m very boyish and I can be very feminine at the same time. I like contrasting things. I don’t like it when things are perfect; I like imperfection. I like sexiness, but I don’t like the first degree of it — the overly sexy, which, for me, is very vulgar. I’m very sensitive about the shoulders and legs. I like the fragility of the woman, but I like a strong woman at the same time. I think I try to put those two ideas together.” — Isabel Marant, fashion designer

But I love how an oversized outwear can make your legs and your overall body seem smaller! And it’s always nice to just warm yourself in it like a blanket ;D
