Old umbrella crimping your style? Relieve rainy day blues and grab style pointers with a chic statement umbrella instead.
Rainy days make us moody dressers.
We opt for darker shades of morose lane as opposed to brighter hues because the wind, wetness and chill do not make us chirp. We become wet angry birds instead. Alright so what, some of us willingly don dark colors on purpose because we like to complement the gray weather and that is totally fine.
Until it’s not. What if you’re feeling out of kilter from weathering too many bad thunderstorms with murderous lightnings clad in recycled drab wear?
How does one better the mood without overindulging on caffeine (and insert your guilty pleasure here) to get up and running?
Because this is a fashion column, I’ll start with an appropriately vain suggestion and you must already know it as the solution is right smack in the title of this piece. A pretty umbrella to your rescue that is!
To be technically accurate, an umbrella is a functional weather-protecting tool, but why must you be obligated to toting the boring ones only?
While umbrellas came under the microscope at the rainy Oscar 2014, there were not a single memorable umbrella in sight.
When a few celebs in pretty dresses resorted to wearing ponchos as they walked a wet red carpet, the sea of umbrellas stood out showcased an affinity for dark, safe (boring) shades and even safer (boring) designs.
Granted that somber elegant wear is the recurring theme for such an event, but as a humble observer of fashion, I believe there is a dire need for eye-catching umbrella varieties so that average folks like the average fashionistas (of course!) would make it a point to consider the freedom of carrying one that doesn’t wear their style and temperament down.
The new world’s all about the holy matrimony of utility and design. Umbrella designers should not be left out in the cold rain.
A visually-attractive umbrella that functions optimally under rainy, windy or overly sunny weather conditions is surely worth an investment. In the same breath, it will also help to alter some people’s mind boggling mindset about umbrella-carrying.
I’m talking about adults with umbrella issues. You know the macho men and women and the likes of them that’d most likely end up borrowing other people’s umbrellas because they’re too cool to bring one out.
So, are you ready to start carrying umbrellas with more enthusiasm this rainy season? If so, scroll on down for lookbooks that make umbrellas such a major fashion accessory that you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of it sooner:
? red umbrella – Curiosite.es
? see through umbrella with ruffle trim – Primark
? clear umbrella with black trim – H&M
? kissy face umbrella – Felix Rey
? logo umbrella – Coach
Do you find any umbrella style that you fancy here? What do you think of umbrellas in general? Are you an umbrella person or do you make it a point to go against the waterproof contraption?
“Any fool carries an umbrella on a wet day, but the wise man carries it every day.” – Irish Proverb
