Fashionista NOW: These COMFY Pants Will Keep You Sane In Humid Weather

Pants you want to wear on hazy humid days when you’ve got no time or can’t be bothered to shave.

Monsoon’s left the building, the rain isn’t falling and only Mr Haze is rolling and worsening. A blanket of eyeball-irritating, lung-killing smog that traps heat, blurs vision, increases humidity.

Theoretically, if we’re all civilized humans who love Mother Nature like we all proclaim we do when we write long moralistic essays in high school, we would want to stop the annual slash-and-burn land clearances that take place in Sumatra and Borneo once and for all. But since that isn’t happening for reasons related to selfish human tendencies, we ponder deeply instead: What kind of pants shall we wear today?

There is talk of skinny jeans being so over and that jogger pants are all everyone’s in a thrall about. There is a ring of truth to it as we’ve gone high-waisted as opposed to the butt-crack-exposing low waist jeans style that was huge in the early 2000s. You know fashion cycles and their predictable yet charming repetitiveness.

But, I’m here with a serious confession to make. I can go daily wearing my loose comfy harem-ish pants that carry prints of the black and white sort. Or in other dual-toned colors as long as they’re loose, comfy and most importantly made in highly-breathable fabric as I hail from the city of humidity.

I can go in depth about why I love these heaven-sent slouchy pants so much but that would bore your brain cells to an early death. I mean, what is there to shout about? It’s the soft kind of pants that do not strangle the crotch area. I’m so over tight pants in this weather not because of their comfy style appeal per se.

If you live somewhere deathly humid (yes, I know, this is no Dubai, but still), you will know that anything that sticks close to the skin is just a recipe for a general stress that could accumulate and burst into a fit of rage especially when you’re hangry, trying to gobble up a plate of HOT mee goreng mamak while the waiter is being a complete insensitive nutcase for refusing to turn on a fan on a bloody hazy humid day. I mean, what’s a girl to do to get some ceiling fan to work on an F&B type of joint here in Malaysia? Have we all gone mental?

Oops, where were we? My pants. They did not burst into flames as I’m glad to report. They’re perfect for days like these. A bit of a relaxed harem fit, or a straight cut and loose or palazzo-ish in silhouette, these pants are a holiday that everyone are obligated to go on!

If you’re wondering how the rest of the world are wearing the super comfy patterned pants, then you’re so lucky because I’ve selected 10 looks (including the intro imagery) that will convince you to shed those skin-tight jeans for a bit and give your very sad smothered legs some space so they can finally breathe!

Fun fact about me: The very first song from Damien Rice I’d listened to was Canonball. It’s a beautiful song that can transport me back in time when I had thin wonky brows, botched hair dye job on a chemically-straightened mane and a slightly lost, wandering soul.

Back to the subject of slouchy comfy patterned pants: Would you wear them? Do you wear them enthusiastically as I do? My mother, who is a naturally fashionable lady finds my daily wear of loose pants completely uninspired but still, my love for her knows no bounds.

“Symbolic of life, hair bolts from our head[s]. Like the earth, it can be harvested, but it will rise again. We can change its color and texture when the mood strikes us, but in time it will return to its original form, just as Nature will in time turn our precisely laid-out cities into a weed-way.”Diane Ackerman, A Natural History of the Senses
