Fashionista NOW: Melinda Looi’s Baju Kurung For Raya 2015 Fashion Inspiration

Melinda Looi's Baju Kurung For Raya 2015 Fashion Inspiration

Our love for Melinda Looi’s modern kurung design is as strong as our affinity for the Malaysian fashion designer’s socially-conscious fashion initiative.

Melinda Looi’s much anticipated Raya 2015 Collection is officially out and has been so since the 19th of May. As predicted, we drool at first sight!

We’ve narrowed down our top 8 favorites from her collection in collaboration with both Malaysian actresses, Liyana Jasmay and Emma Maembong where proceeds from the sales will be donated to UMMC Children Ward for patients with rara diseases. Amongst other organizations that Melinda Looi have donated to in the past include, IJN Foundation and Pernim (Persatuan Kebajikan Anak Pesakit HIV/AIDS Nurul Iman Malaysia).

As always, find our picks below!

Melinda Looi’s modern kurung collection created in collaboration with Liyana Jasmay is a winner in our eye. The use of soft and dreamy pastel colors (of dusty pinks, baby blues, softest grays and lilac) leaves us quite frankly hypnotized.

Maembong’s kurung designs are much bolder in comparison. Splashed in vivid prints and intense colors like blue, red, brown and purple, her collection is quite a riot suited for those whose fashion statement is to stand out.

About The Emel Initiative:

’emel by Melinda Looi’ is a socially conscious fashion initiative by multi-award winning fashion designer Melinda Looi, offering an annual Raya ready-to-wear collection, whereby a part of sales proceeds from the collection will be donated to a selected charity each year.

The word emel (pronounced eh-mehl) is derived from the word amal, of Arabic origin. Amal means hope, expectation, and aspiration. In Malay, it means good deeds or charity.
