Fashionista NOW: Retro Sixties Fashion Inspiration

The 1960’s era has been a time for fashion extreme exploration. It was a period in time marked by various social movements that signified a transformation in rigid social structures. While the spirits of the time were changing, the collective fashion consciousness then was having a wild makeover too.

This article shall look into the key fashion statements of the sixties. You can use these ideas to help you brainstorm for any sixties-themed outfits that will flatter your appearance.

Incorporate bold patterns or prints

Here, the model is sporting a batik print jacket that adds a touch of drama in her ensemble. Though skinny jeans were not ‘in’ back in the sixties, they can be incorporated for a mix-themed look.

Bell Bottoms

Bell bottoms were the alternative to the capris in the early 1960s. In the picture, the model is wearing a dark green one with a pink chiffon blouse. Always wear them in tones that are bright and fearless. It’s only a crime not to.

Go Go Boots

Go-go boots are a trademark of the 60s, particularly the ones in white. But any knee-high boots will do the trick. Wear them with mini skirts and dresses of diverse colours. Remember that the era was all about psychedelic prints, highlighter colours and mismatched patterns. In other words, do not play safe when it comes to colors!

Sixties Mini Skirts

It’s all about showing your legs. While the model is wearing some patterned tights in the picture above, you can skip that altogether and replace the skirt with one of a brighter color and a bit of detailing instead.

Paisley Prints

Another trademark of the sixties is the paisley, which  is a droplet-shaped vegetable motif of Indian and Persian origin. The model above is wearing a paisley coat. You can pair that with a pair of white go-go-boots and tons of mascara on your fake lashes.

Shorter is better: Dresses of the time had unmarked waistlines and the hemlines were getting shorter and shorter.

Psychedelic Patterns & Colours

Tie-Dye

Tie-dye short dresses are a must. They’re always typically brilliant in colors and patterns. You can never go wrong with wearing tie-dyed clothing in the name of the 1960s fashion.

I hope you’ll find these fashion photos useful. Have fun going back in time through fashion.
