Fashionista NOW: Parental Advisory Explicit Content Fashion Inspiration

Alexander Wang’s parental advisory shirts seen on runways for Spring 2014 during NYFW catapulted the obsession with slogan tees back into the fashion arena.

The good news is you can get the exact style of tops or other variety of shirts, dresses and even purses with the exact slogan and style of lettering stamped on them at a much affordable price range.

Now, why is this particular ‘Parental Advisory Explicit Content’ slogan selling madly as opposed to meme slogans like ‘YOLO‘ or ‘Selfie‘ and other cheeky play-of-words like ‘holy chic‘ and ‘Alexander showed me his wang‘?

Why anyone would wear shirts with douchey lines like ‘I’m kind of a big deal‘ and ‘You suck!‘ will forever escape me but this usually appeals to the young and rebellious crowd which I was once apart of but I still would not be caught dead wearing ‘I’m fly and you’re not‘ slogan tee even though that reflected part of my bloated ego in the early 20s.

If you find sporting a slogan tee a great way to say something without actually saying it, then what exactly is the message behind ‘Parental Advisory Explicit Content’? Is it a way of implying that the wearer is all grown up now that he or she may start uttering words and behaving in ways that are deemed too offensive and unsuitable for children?

After being smothered by the sight of parental advisory tops everywhere from online to local physical boutiques, it has become one of the fads that I gladly give a pass. While slogan tees are not my cup of tea, they might be right up your alley.

Unlike skinny jeans that I see everywhere and still have some remaining love for, shirts with slogans feel a little bit in-your-face for my taste.

Anyway for those into the trend, check out how lookbookers are wearing the warning logos originally found on audio recordings down below:

parental advisory white contrast mesh top – Sheinside

Awesome sets by fellow polyvorers that feature tops and a clutch with a similar slogan:

parental advisory midi bodycon dress – Swaychic

So, what do you think of this parental advisory slogan tee fad? Are you cool with wearing it? Or do you find it rather blah? If you have the opportunity to slap your own slogan on a top, what will it say? Share your thoughts and let us know!

A little bad taste is like a nice splash of paprika. We all need a splash of bad taste—it’s hearty, it’s healthy, it’s physical. I think we could use more of it. No taste is what I’m against.” — Diana Vreeland
