Fashionista NOW: Maxi Dress Ideas For Raya 2012

Aidilfitri is just around the corner and if you’re looking for a quick and modern alternative to the traditional garments to wear on the joyous day, please proceed with the read.

While some of us will be clad in the traditional baju kurung or kebaya on the first day of the celebration, others – like me – will find comfort in casual tees and jeans.

I’m not kidding! Alright, maybe I am.

I can picture myself wearing a form-fitting kebaya accented with lace/floral embroidered details along with a simple batik sarong. It would look good on just about anyone, but then again, being me, I would be more likely to replace the sarong with a pair of my favorite worn out skinny jeans.

Although it’s technically way easier to put on a sarong than to insert both of my legs and tushee into a pair of leg-hugging skinny jeans, I have this fear that my legs will be limited in their movement if I’m in a sarong, skirt or dress.

Now, I’m not so sure what I’d be willing to wear. Does it matter, really?

Anyway.. While raya fashion has been lately big on blending in the traditional and modern elements that one has grown comfortable wearing, I believe some of us would deeply appreciate a more practical approach especially when one is on a tight budget and finds the idea of shopping too energy-draining.

So, in a spirit of being completely minimalistic this Raya, I’d say, just pick out a maxi dress in a flowing cut that is lying around in your closet.

What? Maxi dresses for Raya? In the closet? How marvelously simple, right?

Below are some maxi dress ideas that may be just perfect for this year’s Raya. Now should you find yourself getting annoyed by my suggestion as you happen to not be in the possession of the right kind of maxi dress stuck in a corner somewhere (just like me), kindly raid the local thrift boutiques while preferably on a weekday leave while everyone else is busy working.

Do you say yay or nay to maxi dresses on Raya? Comment below. Here’s wishing you an advance Selamat Hari Raya/Eid Mubarak, ladies!
