Fashionista NOW: How To Wear The Fashionable Palazzo Pants?

What do you do when you’re tired of wearing the usual leg-hugging pants/jeans/leggings but are not too keen to put on a full-blown skirt? You give palazzo pants a try!

Palazzo pants are long trousers cut with a loose, extremely wide leg that flares out from the waist down that at an angle may give the illusion that you’re wearing a maxi skirt. They were a popular trend in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

However, they are not synonymous with the bellbottoms (snug at the thigh area and flare out from the knee) or the harem pants (snug cuff around the ankles).

With their wide legs, they could give your legs a break from all that tight-fitting denims, don’t you think?

Here are some ideas on how to rock the palazzo pants without committing some serious fashion blunders.

Since It’s Bottom Heavy, Go Light At The Top

The palazzo pants flare out from the waist area giving your figure a bottom-heavy look. Pieces that are bottom-heavy call for a much lighter top. Pick a tank top, blouse, corset top that stays snug to your body and let your pants bloom wide down below. This way, you get to maintain a nice long and shapely silhouette.

Kaky wears her bright tangerine palazzo pants with a pink tube top and a chunky black belt to accentuate her waistline. She finishes of her color-blocked outfit by adding a pair of yellow wedges, satchel bag and a wide brim hat.

Christine pairs her magnificent turquoise palazzo pants with a subdued vintage white corset for an elegant look that’s perfect for a formal party setting. Accessories are kept to a minimum – a brown bag, a gold chunky necklace and a bangle.

Petite Girls Can Rock The Palazzo Pants Too!

Even petite gals can rock the palazzo and use the trend to add inches to their height. Well, how do you do this, exactly? Just make sure that you tuck in your shirt tails into your palazzo pants to create a higher-looking waistline. Throw in some wedge heels or platform shoes to add more inches.

The most important part is to always tuck your shirt/top/blouse in. This simple bit adds so much to your length.

And another thing to note: Stick with solid monochromatic colors or subtle patterns. We want to avoid the blocky, busy, height-stunting effects of boldly printed palazzo pants.

Go Chic With Solid Colors

There are a world variety of palazzo pants with prints and patterns; floral, animal, abstract or ethnic. But plain colors allow you to appear effortlessly chic.

Take a cue from Nicole as she pairs her lovely beige/brown palazzo pants with a sleeveless top that carries very subtle floral details and a vintage belt with gold buckle and chains to accentuate her waistline. I just love how simple this is.

Patterned, Printed, Color-loaded Palazzos

If you love wild prints, loud patterns, fresh variety of colors, the palazzo pants are going to spoil you for choice. There are just too many. But please pair the ‘busy’ pants with a solid colored top.

Margaret wears hers with a tucked-in lily white oversized-shirt for a laid-back free-spirited look. Her pants are pretty long for my taste but anything that rocks your boat, girl!

If you’re the floral-loving type, take a cue from Bea by pairing the floral palazzo with a tucked-in yellow polo shirt.

Fancy palazzo pants are a practical fashion staple for a day out at the beach. Its lightweight material and wide-leg design will ensure fantastic air circulation and Kryz Uy looks like she’s happy twirlin’ around in them.
